At TRSA's fourth annual hospital seminar, held Nov. 1-2 in Chicago, 14 speakers participated in presenting information to the 106 attending on how to properly serve hospital accounts.

From the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospitals, Bruce Elegant spoke on how textile rental firms can be in compliance with JCAH. Other subjects were handled by Maureen Lougheed of Hospital Linen Systems, Fort Lauderdale, Fla.; Charles Stratton of Vanderbilt University; Fred Leser Jr. of National Linen Service, Atlanta; Russell Colling of Hospital Shared Services of Colorado; W. Homer Benson of Sun Country Linen, Tucson. Also, a panel discussed service alternatives and included David Gross of Hospital Linen Systems; Jerry Moore of the Association of Cooperative Hospital Laundries; and Don McKnight of Palace Quality Service, Industries, Detroit.

A debate between Peggy Ryan of Ryan Associates, Denver, and Nate Belkin of Fashion Seal Uniforms parried disposables against reusables for hospital use, and Luba Dowling of Yale-New Haven Hospital provided a look into the future for the alternatives.

Jan Schultz of the Association of Operating Room Nurses told about the testing of heat sealed patched on surgical linen, and Larry Zelner of Zelner & Badner, New York, analyzed the comparative costs of disposables versus reusables.

The next TRSA hospital seminar is scheduled Dec. 2-3 in Boston.
