For some time, worldwide antitrust enforcement agencies have been aggressively pursuing anticompetitive practices. Recently, the European Commission, the antitrust enforcement arm of the European Union, levied a fine of $2.7 billion against Alphabet, Google’s parent company, according to news reports.

The Commission found that Google engaged in illegal anticompetitive conduct by unfairly promoting its shopping service over those of its competitors. The fine is the highest ever given out by the Commission, topping the $1.45 billion fine doled out to chipmaker Intel in 2009.

There are now more than 100 countries which are actively enforcing antitrust laws. Linen, uniform and facility services companies must comply with the antitrust laws in each country in which they operate.
