With winter just around the corner, laundries are doing their part in a number of communities nationwide to help children and others in need acquire coats to stay warm in cold weather.

The latest example that we’ve heard about is Belmont Laundry Inc., Springfield, MA, which is providing laundering services for donated coats that will be distributed through the annual Salvation Army “Coats for Kids” Drive in Western Massachusetts, according to news reports.

The drive’s media sponsor, WGGB/WSHM in Springfield, is asking the public to donate new or gently used coats at their studio/offices at 1300 Liberty St. on weekdays from 9 a.m.-5 p.m., the reports said. Donors also may drop off coats at the 94.7 WMAS studios at the Basketball Hall of Fame.

Belmont Laundry will clean the coats and get them ready for distribution to children in need at no charge. The drive runs through Oct. 20. Other drop-off locations are available to make it easier for area residents to participate in the drive. Click here for details.
