A large contingent of female executives at the Clean Show attended a two-hour presentation sponsored by TRSA's Women in Textile Services group on networking and career strategies for women.

TRSA’s Women in Textile Services Committee held a highly productive lunch meeting on June 6 at the Clean Show in Las Vegas. The two-hour luncheon featured a speaker, networking and the promise of future peer-mentoring groups among those in attendance.

Shavon Lindley, CEO and co-founder, Women Evolution, San Diego, kicked off the luncheon with a presentation titled, “Own Your Career: Three Secrets to Advancement.” The three secrets Lindley presented to attendees included:

  • Know your values – attendees were given a sheet to review with words such as “balance,” “happiness,” and “innovation,” and asked to place a check next to each of their core values

  • Own your review – Lindley gave an example of a project evaluation tracker that she developed to help executives update the status of each of their accomplishments throughout the year. The goal is to bring this document to an annual performance review to document one’s accomplishments

  • Give and ask for support – hold each other accountable on goals and support each other

Following Lindley’s presentation, attendees filled out a peer-mentoring networking card and broke into smaller groups to discuss their career objectives and biggest career fears and challenges. At the conclusion of the luncheon, Lindley gathered each of these cards. She will use the cards to set up peer-mentoring groups that will network online following the Clean Show, using a set of digital tools provided by Lindley and her organization, Women Evolution.
