The textile service company that until recently was known as Robison & Smith has announced plans with city officials in Johnstown, NY, to add 2,400 square feet of additional space to its plant there, according to a local news report.

Century Linen & Uniform, which recently rebranded and changed its name as part of its 100th anniversary commemoration, presented plans to city officials last month to expand its facility 542 N. Perry St. in Johnstown. The company’s headquarters is in nearby Gloversville, NY, where it also operates a plant. Century Linen & Uniform operates service centers in Albany, Canastota and Potsdam, NY, as well.

“We’re just desperate for space,” Century President Richard Smith told city officials regarding the Johnstown plant. The company needs the additional room for storage. The addition won’t have any direct impact on employment. Planning Board President Peter K. Smith has set a public hearing on the proposal for 4 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, to consider the construction plans.
