Cintas Toronto DC Earns ‘Zero Waste’ Honors

Cintas Corp. recently announced that its distribution center in Toronto has received Gold recognition under the TRUE (Total Resource Use and Efficiency) Zero Waste certification system administered by Green Business Certification Inc. (GBCI), according to a news release.

The Toronto facility was certified Gold because it’s diverted at least 90% of its waste stream from landfill and incineration. The distribution center has a zero-waste policy in place and has met the TRUE Zero Waste certification requirements over the past 12 months, the release said.

“Cintas has a rich history of sustainability, and our zero-waste-to-landfill initiatives are just another example of our commitment to applying innovative ideas that will protect our planet,” said Krista Jaeger, Cintas’ manager of sustainability. “Our Toronto distribution center has been focused on reusing, recycling, composting or disposing of materials via other responsible outlets, so it’s an honor to be formally recognized by GBCI’s rating system.”

The goal for businesses participating in the TRUE Zero Waste certification is to divert all end-use materials from the landfill, incineration (waste-to-energy) and the environment. Cintas launched its initiatives in 2013 and has since had five distribution locations certified. The company also is working to expand a model of its zero-waste-to-landfill program to its rental laundry plants and rental locations.

“The Toronto DC is buzzing with excitement over this accomplishment, which will further motivate the entire team in the right direction and set a precedent for excellence when it comes to responsible waste management,” said Aftab Shamsudeen, production manager, Cintas.
