Dempsey Brass Brave ‘Ice Bucket Challenge’

Three Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply Inc. executives – including President P.J. Dempsey – agreed to let colleagues pour buckets of ice water over them as part of a charity fundraiser to raise awareness about Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis (ALS), a disease of the central nervous system that recently claimed the life of an employee’s spouse, according to news reports.

Dempsey staff made cash donations in order to vote for their preferred candidate to receive the ice-bucket treatment. A local TV station aired an excerpt of the event. The fundraiser brought in $1,500 for the ALS Association.

Dempsey said it’s unfortunate that it sometimes takes a passing of a loved one to bring awareness to a serious problem. “We’re glad to have an event here for ALS,” Dempsey said. “We’re glad to have an event to support the fight for a cure, but we’re saddened that it took a tragic loss like this to bring something so close to home to raise awareness for it.” Click here for details.
