The United Way of Lackawanna and Wayne counties in Pennsylvania recently held an awards breakfast to recognize companies for their efforts to help the charitable group exceed its fund-raising goal, which totaled $3.45 million. Among the companies recognized was Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply, which received a “Spirit of Caring Chairman’s Award,” along with two other businesses and an individual.

Campaign Co-ChairTom Donohue told the attendees gathered at the Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in Scranton that the recognition was important because local organizations and individuals had given so much support to the fund-raising campaign. “We are thrilled,” he said. “We had a really good feeling. … We felt that the community really rallied.”

United Way President and CEO Gary Drapek added that, “It’s important to us because we are always asking people to help us. … We are asking people to contribute their time, their energy, their resources. This is our way to say, ‘Thank you.’”

The United Way’s 2015-’16 campaign in the two counties officially concludes on June 30. For details, click here or here.
