Elevance Renewable Sciences Inc., Woodridge, IL, recently was recognized as one of 10 global companies whose innovation is transforming the energy sector, according to a news release. Bloomberg New Energy Finance presented the company with a 2015 New Energy Pioneer award in New York, at Bloomberg’s eighth annual summit.

“We are pleased to receive this award, and are honored to be included among other innovators in the energy category,” says Elevance CEO K’Lynne Johnson, who accepted the award on behalf of the company. Elevance, a specialty chemicals company, uses a proprietary, Nobel Prize-winning technology to convert vegetable oils to a range of renewable chemicals, according to the release.

The competition spanned a diverse number of industries, including advanced transportation, bioenergy, energy storage, solar and wind. The award is based on the potential scale, innovation and momentum of each company’s products, and evaluated by an independent panel of industry and technology experts. “By rewarding game-changing innovators,” said Bloomberg New Energy Finance in a recent press release, “[it] hopes to show the profound transition in today’s energy system, toward new business models, technologies and market structures that are creating great commercial opportunities.”
