Leadership & Leg.: 50+ Meetings on Capitol Hill

 

TRSA organizes the Hill Day meetings each year to allow its members to confer with federal regulators, lawmakers and key Hill staff to educate policymakers about issues facing the commercial laundry industry. 

 

“As our membership has grown, and due to a series of continued policy victories across the country and in Washington, DC, our members are increasingly aware of the impact they can have on public policy through these meetings,” said Kevin Schwalb, TRSA’s vice president of government relations. “We’ve registered 73 participants for Hill Day so far, and we expect that number to possibly hit 75 before we get to the conference.”

 

According to Schwalb, in years past the association typically registered about 40 or more of its conference attendees to participate in Hill Day meetings. This year’s headcount will nearly double the number of TRSA members meeting with congressional leaders and their staff. The members will be split into 25 groups and attend more than 50 scheduled meetings in total on Capitol Hill as part of planned activities for the association’s 2016 conference.

 

TRSA has seen the ranks of its membership grow by more than 8% in just the past four months. P.J. Dempsey, president of Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply Inc., Jessup, PA, said TRSA’s leadership on environmental issues, water conservation and business regulatory issues has not only helped recruit new association members, but also has driven smart legislation around the United States.

 

“TRSA has grown its ranks, in part, because of its work with the EPA, OSHA and countless state governments and agencies on environmentally safe and smart worker protections while ensuring that, as small business owners, the regulatory burden doesn’t overwhelm the membership and damage an industry that employs hundreds of thousands of people,” Dempsey said.
