After 85 years serving the greater Richland County area, (North Central Ohio), Swan Cleaners and Linen Supply is closing its doors on Friday, April 11, according to a local news report.

Founded by Gordon Schwan in 1929 and locally owned and operated since then, the business was known for meeting the needs of a diverse group of customers, ranging from uniform and medical to supermarkets, hotels and repair shops. Based in Mansfield, OH, Swan processed healthcare textiles and provided that sector with gowns, scrubs and nurse apparel. Local customers also valued its same-day service, executive shirt laundry and embroidery and screen printing.

Swan Cleaners was a community-minded business and frequently volunteered its services. For example, they always has helped the local charity, Friendly House, by cleaning coats for the needy. In 2013, they cleaned tennis shoes discarded at the Tough Mudder obstacle course event and gave them to people in need of footwear.

Mansfield, OH, attorney Jeff Heck, who represents Swan Cleaners, said the owners had made cuts in the past to maintain the business, but it wasn’t enough. “That business has gotten tough, regulated more,” he said, “just like many businesses.”

They’ve put their heartfelt thanks on a sign on the counter. It reads as follows: “We have been a longtime family business and have been well known in the community. We have greatly appreciated the business and friendly relationships we enjoyed with our customers for so many years.”
