Penn Emblem Co., a third-generation manufacturer in the branding and decorating solutions market, is celebrating 70 years in business in 2017, according to a news release.

Frank Blumenthal founded Penn Emblem in 1947. He began by embroidering emblems for uniform rental companies in his Philadelphia garage. His son Robert later joined the business and bought it in 1970. The third-generation leader and current President of Penn is Randi Blumenthal-Joseph. She grew up watching her father add new technologies to the company’s offerings, from appliques to barcoded ID labels.

Today, Penn Emblem carries an array of products, including custom-embroidered patches and screen-printed emblems; appliques; sublimated products; transfers; thermal barcode systems; and mending materials for the linen, uniform and facility services markets, the release said.

Randi took over the company in 2010. At that time, Penn Emblem also was recognized with a National Women’s Business Enterprise Certification (WBENC).  The company has renewed that certification annually ever since. “Today, as Frank’s granddaughter, I represent the third generation to steer the company as president,” Randi said. “I hope to continue the company’s tradition of innovative, high-quality decorative solutions that have been at the heart of the manufacturing operation for three generations.”

Penn Emblem is planning a variety of events around its 70th birthday, Randi said. “(The anniversary) will focus around our hard-working employees, loyal customers and the surrounding community, who have all made the company successful throughout the years.” She added that plans are in the works for parties, community service programs and volunteering events throughout 2017.
