‘Stillinoyed’ IL Tax Targets Laundry

Illinois lawmakers seeking to raise additional revenue as part of a budget deal have proposed a series of new taxes, including a 6.5% sales tax on landscaping, amusement park lockers and – you guessed it – linen supply and laundry services.

The new taxes are included in Senate Bill 9, sponsored by Sen. Toi Hutchinson (D-Chicago Heights). The bill also features a corporate income tax hike, taxes on Netflix, sugary drinks and “storage units,” which include items ranging from boat slips to parking garages, aircraft hangers and amusement park lockers.

Kevin Schwalb, TRSA’s vice president of government relations, is working with state officials in an effort to defeat or modify the bill that could encourage more Illinois businesses – especially those in the Chicago area – to relocate to Indiana. Several years ago, Hoosier State officials adopted the slogan “Stillinoyed” to encourage businesses in Illinois to do just that. Click here for details.
