TRSA exhibited at the Nov. 10-13 International Hotel, Motel & Restaurant Show (IHMRS) in New York to teach IHMRS attendees about how TRSA members’ services cost-effectively reduce hotels’ and restaurants’ carbon footprint and otherwise boost their profitability.

The TRSA booth emphasized the association’s new Clean Green certification, which provides them with third-party verification that the linens, tablecloths, napkins, garments and other reusable textiles they procure from TRSA-certified members are laundered in an environmentally friendly manner.

By meeting directly with textile services customers at the show, TRSA gathered market intelligence that will help drive future programming. Attendees were asked about their experiences with contracting for linen service, which identified their levels of satisfaction with TRSA member and nonmember operators. Many smaller hotel operators seemed unfamiliar with the outsourcing option and were directed to TRSA’s website to find a provider.

The show also was a recruiting ground for TRSA’s new General Membership category (for on-premises laundering) and Associates. Member relations was part of the TRSA agenda as well, with several Associates exhibiting. Operator Member Cintas Corp., Mason, OH, was a show sponsor, displaying its variety of garment, mat and hygiene products.

To draw attention to the TRSA display, staff offered passers-by free cloth napkins for their home use. Sponsored by Milliken & Co., Spartanburg, SC, and American Dawn, Los Angeles, these logo-imprinted napkins featured the Clean Green certification seal and highlighted the importance to the environment of substituting reusable textile products for their disposable equivalents.

TRSA also previewed at IHMRS its 2013 Strategic Analysis of the Textile Services Industry, which contains business forecasts for the U.S. F&B and lodging industries. Excerpts from the data to be included in this report (to be published in the December edition of Textile Services magazine) were available at the TRSA display.
