Oct. Summit to Tour UniFirst, COMTEX

Learn More and Register

TRSA’s twice-yearly Production Summit and Plant Tours series continues Oct. 11-12 in Columbus, OH, again guiding attendees on techniques to increase throughput and profitability, and providing tours of two local laundries to facilitate “hands-on” comparison of processes and performance.

Central Ohio Medical Textiles (COMTEX) and UniFirst Corp. will host attendees, guiding them through their facilities and offering further insights after the tours in a discussion of their plant systems. The COMTEX laundry, opened in 2004, serves hospitals and specialty medical facilities and features three 16-module (150-lb.) tunnel washers. The UniFirst facility (1992, industrial/uniform accounts) is driven by a conventional wash aisle with a plant-staff-engineered overhead shuttle system.

Summit general sessions and breakouts examine current industry productivity trends, and help attendees hone management and technical skills. These presentations and lessons learned from plant tours enable them to improve everyday production management decisions immediately following their Summit participation.

Keynoting this Summit will be Edwin G. Foulke Jr., the attorney who was OSHA’s top administrator from 2006 to 2008, when workplace injury, illness and fatality rates dropped to their lowest levels in recorded history. Now an attorney in private practice with Fisher & Phillips, he has helped TRSA develop industrywide tactics for overcoming the most difficult obstacles in eliminating injuries and illnesses. His Summit presentation, Safety on the Production Floor, will cover the most common violations that produced penalties assessed by OSHA in fiscal 2016 to linen, uniform and facility services companies for safety noncompliance.

Another safety-related presentation, Implementation of OSHA Compliance, will help ensure that plant managers recognize all applicable standards and understand consequences beyond fines for failing to comply. Other Summit session topics include:

  • Managing Conflict and Disruptive Employee Behavior (workshop)
  • Production Scheduling through Process Improvement (panel discussion)
  • Hygienically Clean Linen
  • Today’s Water Reuse Best Practices

The Production Summit and Plant Tours series maximizes participants’ continuing collaboration with experienced professionals from TRSA member companies, the industry’s most productive and profitable organizations. One hundred percent of the attendees who evaluated the February 2017 Summit indicated they would return to another Summit.
