TRSAPAC Fly-In: Four Congressmen Meet with Execs

The latest TRSAPAC Fly-In was a smashing success with four high-level meetings on Capitol Hill with members of Congress. The meetings provided an opportunity for TRSA members to discuss with key legislators issues affecting the linen, uniform and facility services industry.

The July 13 agenda kicked off with a morning meeting at the Capitol Hill Club with Rep. Brett Guthrie (R-KY). After each of the attendees introduced themselves and their companies, Rep. Guthrie discussed his business background, before talking at length with Fly-In attendees about the state of the healthcare bill currently in the Senate. While admitting the difficulty in coming to a consensus on healthcare, Rep. Guthrie seemed optimistic that the Senate would be able to pass the legislation eventually.

The group then made the short walk across the street to the Longworth House Office Building for their next two meetings, first with Rep. Luke Messer (R-IN) followed by a gathering with Rep. Chris Collins (R-NY). Rep. Messer discussed the Republican plans for healthcare reform, tax reform and then infrastructure, while Rep. Collins championed the accomplishments of the Trump administration to this point, including regulatory relief to businesses. Rep. Collins gave a spirited defense of the Trump administration and its cabinet members, while lamenting the fact that the “fake news” hasn’t reported on the positive things that the new administration has done in its short period in office.

The agenda concluded with a lunchtime gathering with Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI). The meeting began with Rep. Grothman giving an overview of his district in Wisconsin, and his background before coming to Washington, DC. A member of the House Budget Committee, Grothman hopes to hold the line on government spending, and praised President Donald Trump’s budget as “courageous.” He stressed the importance of ensuring that Trump’s agenda and presidency is a success.

Attendees of the July 13 meetings included:

  • David Potack, TRSA Chair, Unitex
  • PJ Dempsey, Government Affairs Committee Chair, Dempsey Uniform & Linen
  • Jim Doro, Doritex
  • Greg Hart, Cintas
  • David Tingue, Tingue

The TRSAPAC Fly-In got underway the previous night with a dinner meeting with Doug Menorca, the chief of staff for Rep. Messer. Menorca gave the Fly-In attendees an update on legislative moves in the U.S. House of Representatives.
