TRSA wrapped up September with the last of its three webinar offerings during the month, a Sept. 28 presentation titled “Innovative Healthcare Product Developments.” The webinar was sponsored by IPA, Atlanta, and shared the latest innovations in the healthcare sector from three TRSA associate member company representatives.

Presenters for this webinar included:

  • Scott Delin, vice president of healthcare sales, Fashion Seal Healthcare, Seminole, FL
  • Dan Farnsworth, vice president of sales, Leonard Automatics Inc., Denver, NC
  • Joe Gomes, president, IPA, Atlanta

Delin opened up the hour-long webinar with a look at the latest in medical scrub fashion, including Fashion Seal’s Simply Soft scrub line. According to Delin, today’s trends in scrubs include the following:

  • Retail-inspired scrubs
  • A focus on patient security
  • Various color options to differentiate departments
  • The ability to recapture lost dollars from declining acute-care revenues through new sales to ambulatory care settings that appreciate more fashionable garments

“Laundries now have the opportunity to not only recapture those lost dollars, but also open and close new opportunities within their existing customer base,” Delin said.

Farnsworth followed up with a closer look at cart washers, with a focus on Leonard Automatics’ LCW96 and LCW 144 models. He gave an overview of things to take into consideration when purchasing a cart washer for your laundry facility, including:

  • What types of construction – stainless steel, etc.?
  • Manual or automated operation? If automated, consider pneumatic doors, drying power, chemical injection, steam injection and cart ejection.
  • Single or double capacity? Operators should base this decision on how many carts their laundry needs to clean.

Gomes wrapped up the webinar with a look at automated scrub and linen distribution systems, such as IPA’s scrubXchange system. This automated system cuts down on garment and linen losses by allowing only those authorized to use scrubs and linens access to the system. Staff members get into the system by scanning their badge, opening the door and removing linen. The linen taken from the system is weighed and feedback is delivered to the staff, including poundage used and its cost.
