When TRSA launched its internship program in 2017 to help companies find skilled labor and, in turn, give undergraduate students a chance to learn the business, the association created a mutually beneficial partnership. Now in its second year, the program has grown significantly with more than 200 students submitting resumes.
Emerald Textiles, a leading West Coast healthcare launderer, today announced two major developments: the acquisition of MediClean Linen and Laundry, a healthcare operator based in Los Angeles; and plans to develop a new 60 million lbs. per year plant in Livingston, CA, according to a news release. The new plant in Northern California is expected to come online in the third quarter of 2019. Emerald CEO Greg Anderson said he’s pleased with the company’s progress in both ends of the Golden State.
Investment analyst Robert W. Baird & Co. saw the underpinnings of uniform rental growth slip a little this fall. The firm’s proprietary index that includes industries that account for the largest share of uniformed workers grew by just 19,000 jobs in September. That was its weakest addition since September 2017. Both of those months were affected by hurricanes. This year’s dip to 49,000 job gains was slightly below the 50,000 to 80,000 associated with public uniform service companies’ mid-single-digit organic revenue gains.
A memorandum of understanding (MOU) has been signed between TRSA, the association for the linen, uniform and facility services industry, and the Laundry Association of Australia (LAA), establishing a framework for cooperation that will enhance their respective abilities to promote, protect and professionalize the industry.
The TRSAPAC Fly-In included several high-level meetings with key regulators and legislators. The linen, uniform and facility services executives that attended the two-day event met with a pair of House members, as well as the Secretary of Labor.
Mel Davis recently joined the Kannegiesser ETECH team as the regional sales manager for the Southeast United States. Davis brings approximately 15 years of laundry operations experience to the staff, having worked previously as the senior vice president of operations for Angelica and the vice president of operations for Crothall Laundry, according to a news release.
TRSA associate member ARCO/Murray, Downers Grove, IL, recently completed a 57,000-square-foot laundry build-out for Cooperative Laundry in Kearny, NJ. The new facility will serve the New York City metro area hospitality market, according to a news release.
