A consistent theme at TRSA’s recent Town Hall discussions, Market-Specific Roundtables, and other visits with members has focused on both the positive momentum of the reopening economy and the struggle to find and retain employees. This was even more evident as TRSA staff members visited with more than 20 members during the association’s recent seven state, 2,600-mile Reopening Tour. Regardless of geography, market sector or size, and whether an operator or supplier partner, the labor shortage presents a real challenge and risk to recovery.

TRSA Tour 2021: Staff Visits Members as Economy Reopens

TRSA finished the first leg of its Reopening Tour 2021 through the Southeastern United States to highlight the reopening of the economy and its impact on the linen, uniform and facility services industry. Traveling from the TRSA headquarters in Alexandria, VA, through Charlotte, NC; Birmingham, AL; and Memphis, Nashville, and Knoxville, TN, over the course of 10 days, the Tour traveled nearly 2,600 miles, across seven states and 22 operator and supplier-partner facilities. TRSA representatives on the Tour included Joseph Ricci, president & CEO; Tom Newell, vice president ofoperations; Kevin Schwalb, vice president of government relations; and intern Ryan Kiernan.

DEI Boosts Employee Satisfaction, Business Growth

TRSA recently held the first of a two-part diversity, equity and inclusion (DEI) webinar series titled Racial Equity & Workplace Culture. Jejuana C. Brown, M.Ed. CDP, served as the featured speaker for the program, which included data from McKinsey & Co. on workplace diversity trends. The one-hour webinar – sponsored by TRSA’s Diversity, Equity and Inclusion Committee – drew more than 30 attendees from the linen, uniform and facility services industry. TRSA’s Salita Jones and Kristin Mudd served as co-moderators for the program.

Hotels – Global Industry Awakening from COVID Slumber

The global hotel industry closed 2021’s first quarter with corridors recovering unevenly. Following a year of what Hotstats, the Worcester, U.K.-based hospitality tracker, described as “struggling” occupancy, some improvement is noticeable everywhere. For hospitality laundries, whose recovery depends on this sector, it was a hopeful sign, but also an indication of how far the sector has to go.

HLSG Expands Service Area with Acquisition

Healthcare Linen Services Group (HLSG), a provider of healthcare laundry services in the Midwest and Central U.S., recently announced the acquisition of an Angelica facility in Chicago. The acquisition adds the 10th laundry facility and 20-million pounds of processing capacity to the HLSG network of plants across four states, according to a news release.
