Wastewater authorities in Spokane, WA, recently recognized three local companies, including Alsco Inc., for a 100% compliance record during 2015 for wastewater discharges into the local sewer system, according to news reports and a news release from local officials.

“We want to recognize these businesses for being good stewards of the environment and helping the city operate its wastewater treatment system efficiently,” said Scott Simmons, interim public works and utilities division director. “We appreciate all the work that has been invested in these efforts.”

Various companies must comply with local wastewater permits because they either produce large volumes of wastewater or they discharge pollutants in sufficient quantities that they potentially could disrupt wastewater treatment processes, the release said. The city of Spokane processes roughly 34 million gallons of water annually. City officials work with a variety of businesses, ranging from restaurants to manufacturers, to ensure that wastewater discharge flows comply with local requirements.
