Two TRSA member companies, AmeriPride Services and Mission Linen Supply recently were announced as winners in the “silver” category of the “Best in Biz Awards for the Most Environmentally Responsible Company of the Year,” according to news releases.

The Best in Biz Awards describes itself as the only business awards program judged by an independent panel comprised of members of the news media and industry analysts.

The program honors companies, teams, executives and products for their business success. The “hotly contested” 2017 program drew a total of 650 entries from public and private companies of various sizes, industries and geographic regions across the U.S. and Canada, the release said. Leaders from both Mission and AmeriPride cited their company’s dedication to conservation as a key element of their corporate philosophies.

“Preserving the environment has been a top priority for Mission since our founding in 1930,” said President/CEO John Ross, whose company operates throughout California, as well as Arizona, Texas, Oregon and New Mexico. “We never stop looking for ways to take our commitment to sustainability even further. It’s a tremendous honor to have our efforts recognized. We hope others are inspired to follow our lead.”

Mission’s recent efforts in this area stretch back to 1973, when it installed one of the industry’s first wastewater recycling systems. Since then Mission also has focused on water-reclamation systems, energy-efficient equipment, paperless initiatives, alt-fuel vehicles and more. Through these efforts, Mission saves roughly 1.03 million kilowatt hours of electricity and 141 million gallons of water annually.

AmeriPride’s Safety and Sustainability Officer Brian Keegan emphasized his company’s focus on innovative practices to help enhance its environmental performance. “Our company has a long history of piloting and implementing industry-leading processes and technologies that reduce our impact on the environment,” said Brian Keegan, safety and sustainability officer at AmeriPride Services, Minnetonka, MN. “We are honored to be recognized for our commitment to environmental sustainability and the positive impact our programs are making on the planet and for our customers, employees and communities.” Highlights of recent AmeriPride “green” activities include:

  • Heat reclamation systems have helped reduce its carbon footprint by 9,278 metric tons in 2016, or the equivalent of removing nearly 2,000 cars from the road
  • Water conservation and reuse has helped save approximately 66 million gallons of water, or the equivalent of filling 100 Olympic-sized swimming pools
  • Solar power in several processing plants reduced CO2 emissions by 232 metric tons per year
  • Alternative‐fuel vehicles (including 36 compressed natural gas, 14 propane, 30 electric and 29 hybrid electric delivery trucks) has reduced CO2 emissions by 113 metric tons
