After nearly 43,000 votes poured in, Cintas Canada Ltd., Mississauga, Ontario, Canada, recently declared the Whitecourt Esso Super Station in Whitecourt, Alberta, Canada, as the 2016 Best Restroom in Canada. Whitecourt captured nearly 90% of the vote and will receive $2,500 in Cintas products and services, according to a news release.

“We're humbled by the public's outpouring of support to help us earn the title of Canada's Best Restroom,” said Landon Hommy, owner of the Whitecourt Esso Super Station. “Customers appreciate that they can count on us for a clean place to stop and use the washroom, which is why we pride ourselves on the elegance and maintenance of our facility.”

Recently opened in July 2015, the restrooms at the Whitecourt Esso Super Station feature decorative lighting and wall tiles paired with sleek countertops, making it easy to forget that you're in a gas station bathroom.

“Public restrooms don't typically get a lot of praise, which is why we're proud to honour Whitecourt for its stylish stalls and commitment to cleanliness,” said Jillian Bauer, assistant marketing manager, Cintas Corp. “Whitecourt is the perfect example of a small town rallying around a business that is dedicated to providing clean and well-maintained restrooms.”

The 2016 finalists were selected based on cleanliness, visual appeal, innovation, functionality and unique design elements. Thousands of votes were cast online starting Sept. 20 through Oct. 24, which produced the following results:
