Cintas Employee Honored in OKC
Oklahoma’s Department of Human Services recently honored 16 individuals with disabilities across the state with a commendation for Outstanding Achievements in Employment. One of those 16 is Cintas’ employee Peter J. Broussard Jr., who works at the company’s Oklahoma City location.
Nominated by his deaf-blind specialist and vocational rehab counselor, Joan Blake, there was a time when Broussard Jr. wasn't sure if he could work a full-time job. But Broussard Jr. has spent the past year pursing his own American dream by working as a full-time mat cleaner at Cintas, according to a news release.
"He has not only overcome the negative preconceptions of the hearing-sighted world, he now feels just like any other man with a family to support,” Blake said.
A role model and advocate for others with disabilities, Broussard received his award during the Governor’s annual Disability Employment Awards of Excellence, at the Phillips Pavilion at the Governor's Mansion in Oklahoma City. Last June, Broussard Jr. was chosen as a spokesperson for the Helen Keller Deaf-Blind Awareness Week.
A panel of public servants and volunteers who either serve people with disabilities or represent organizations that provide direct care for them daily select the award winners.
