Cintas Corp., Mason, OH, recently was recognized by Marriott International Inc. for its commitment to sustainability in hospitality, with the textile services company accepting Marriott’s 2014 Supplier Sustainability Award. This annual award recognizes the Marriott supplier that has made a significant environmental impact on its guests and properties through innovative ideas, according to a news release.

“We are continuously looking for opportunities to work with partners like Marriott to help meet their sustainability goals, while also identifying ways to lower the environmental footprint of our operations,” said Pamela Brailsford, Cintas senior director of supplier diversity and sustainability.

In 2013, Marriott outfitted employees in 96,000 eco-friendly garments, allowing Marriott to divert nearly 2.5 million bottles from landfills around the world. Marriott implemented garments from Cintas, including its Regeneration Suiting line, that are constructed of recycled polyester, made from post-consumer plastic bottles.

In addition to its recycled apparel programs, Cintas also offers a Coil Cleaning service that allows hotels to lower energy bills, extend the life of air conditioning units and improve indoor air quality. Marriott increased air flow by up to 28% and reduced up to 17% of the in-room energy consumption.

“We’ve established aggressive sustainability goals, so we need suppliers who can partner with us to achieve those targets,” said Denise Naguib, Marriott International vice president of sustainability and supplier diversity.
