Following a recent fire, Dempsey Uniform & Linen Supply Inc., Jessup, PA, recently provided assistance to another Pennsylvania-based laundry that shares the same family name, according to news reports.

A fire of undetermined origin struck Dempsey’s Fashionable Laundry, Dunmore, PA, on Nov. 29, the reports said. The owners are distantly related to the Dempsey Uniform owners, though the businesses are entirely separate. Kristin Dempsey of Dempsey Uniform said her company agreed to help out the other business as a goodwill gesture, while ensuring that customer needs are met. “This is a nightmare for a business,” she said. “Their customers are local customers and part of the community. We think this is the right thing to do.”

Tommy Dempsey, owner of Dempsey’s Fashionable Laundry, said he appreciated the assistance from Dempsey Uniform as his company assesses the damage to its 10,000-square-foot plant and lays plans to reopen as soon as possible. “It was very nice of them to do that,” he said. “We will be back real soon, without a doubt.” The fire-damaged business specializes in hospitality and food & beverage textiles.
