Domestic Uniform Rental Celebrates 90 Years
Domestic Uniform Rental, Detroit, is celebrating its 90th anniversary in 2016, and shares this honor with all of the men and women who made it possible: devoted, loyal employees; suppliers who have become great partners; valued customers who have grown alongside Domestic; and communities that have welcomed Domestic as neighbors and local contributors, according to a news release.
“We are lucky to have businesses like Domestic Uniform Rental that stayed with the city through thick and thin,” said Detroit Deputy Mayor Ike McKinnon. “For 90 years, they've been an important part of Detroit and we look forward to many more years to come.”
The company began operations as Domestic Linen Supply and Laundry Co., operating out of a converted horse stable in downtown Detroit in 1926. Domestic grew dramatically in tandem with Detroit’s industry, increasing its product offerings and customer base, and creating more jobs.
During the latter half of the 20th century, Domestic expanded operations throughout the Midwest, and with strategic acquisitions took a strong foothold in the Northeast, Atlantic Coast and California, according to the release. The largest family owned provider in the industry, according to the release, Domestic continues to operate under the third and fourth generations of the Colton/Weiss Families, who carry on the legacy of its founder, Isaac Liebson. Domestic offers service to customers in 14 states.
