The first day of TRSA’s HR & Labor Management Summit Series got underway on April 20 with a pair of presentations focused on optimizing your organization’s human-resources strategies and increasing the efficiency of teams in the workplace.

The April 20 presentations were the first in a three-part series. The series consists of six sessions spread among three days in three weeks. The second part of the series is scheduled for April 26 from 1-3 p.m. EDT, with the summit wrapping up on May 3 from 1-3 p.m. EDT.

The opening day of the Summit kicked off with a presentation by Dr. Mario Wallace titled “Effective HR Strategies.” Wallace is the founder of the consulting firm All Things Strategic, and is currently the principal strategy consultant at Ohio State University in Columbus, OH. He has more than 20 years of small-business consulting experience and 11 years of healthcare-consulting experience, with expertise in the areas of process improvement, change management, leadership development, medical education, program instructional development and strategic management.

Wallace’s presentation focused on the following areas:

  • Creating a psychologically safe workplace for your team members
  • Maximizing your organization’s assets, such as human capital, information capital and organizational capital, and aligning these to your company’s overall strategic goals
  • The pillars of organizational readiness, including culture, strategic alignment, teamwork and leadership
  • Performance management
  • Designing incentives

After a brief break, Dan Gonder, the president and owner of Strategic In/Sight Partners, shared his insights on “How to be a More Effective Team.” During his presentation, Gonder highlighted the top individual and group assessment tools available and showed how to apply these tools to increase individual self-awareness. Equipped with this knowledge, individuals and teams can use these insights to improve communication and enhance overall team dynamics.
