Apparel Magazine, a publication geared to global apparel industry executives, recently ranked four TRSA member companies on its 2019 “Top 50 report.” The publication ranked the Top 50 companies based on their profit margins for the most recent fiscal year. Apparel Magazine’s Top 50 includes companies that are publicly traded on a U.S. stock exchange and that have at least $100 million in yearly sales, according to an article highlighting the list.

Among the Top 50 companies, Cintas Corp. is ranked third, moving up from 9th in 2018. Apparel Magazine also recognized UniFirst Corp. at No. 9, VF Corp. at No. 11 and Superior Uniform Group at No. 31.

UniFirst, whose 2019 ranking shot up 20 slots from last year’s list, was one of eight companies from the Top 50 list that the magazine profiled. The profile included an interview with UniFirst CEO Steve Sintros, who discussed challenges and opportunities facing UniFirst in 2019 and beyond.

Regarding the former, Sintros cited the issue of labor shortages as a key challenge for UniFirst. “Like businesses in many industries, one of our top challenges today lies in our ability to hire and retain team partners throughout the U.S. and Canada,” Sintros said. “The hiring landscape has changed in favor of job seekers amid record-low unemployment rates.” He noted further that “Developing and executing effective strategies to combat this challenge is critical in today’s business environment.”

As for opportunities, Sintros said UniFirst is moving quickly to enhance the technology in all of its facilities serving the industrial workwear and related markets. “UniFirst is currently in the process of making some major technology advancements to enhance our customer service and internal CRM capabilities, innovations that will allow us to take our customer focus and priority to the next level.”
