Help Wanted: TRSA Rolls Out Industry Internship Program

Posted January 19, 2018 at 12:15 pm

TRSA interns Kelly Glatthorn, Muneeba Ahmed and Graham Smith met with U.S. Rep. Glenn Grothman (R-WI) during a recent TRSAPAC Fly-In event with lawmakers on Capitol Hill.

TRSA formally launched its 2018 internship program during a recent webinar titled, “Linen, Uniform and Facility Services Industry Internship Program.” The process was discussed in great detail during the hour-long webinar by TRSA’s President & CEO Joseph Ricci and Director of Marketing and PR Ken Koepper.

Linen, uniform and facility services companies interested in participating in the program should indicate their interest by filling out a form on TRSA’s website, or by getting in touch with TRSA’s Susie Gordon at sgordon@trsa.org, and submitting your contact information, positions of interest and potential schools. TRSA will then submit and/or post opportunities to these schools in February.

Interested students can complete an online form available on TRSA’s website by March 30, and TRSA will gather this information and send internship candidates to operator and associate members using zip codes. After receiving this information, companies will interview and hire interested candidates. Once a candidate is selected and the internship wraps up, companies will submit a form to receive reimbursement.

2018 internship areas include the following:

  • Production
  • Engineering
  • Marketing/Sales
  • Management

This is the second year that TRSA has run an industry internship program on behalf of its membership, and the association looks to build upon the success of last year’s program. In 2017, seven students participated in the internship program and received reimbursement for their experience from the association’s Textile Rental Education and Research Trust (TRERT) fund.

The program was a hit with participating companies in 2017. Feedback included the following comments:

“The team was excited about the internship program – it was something new and a lending hand. We announced that we had hired an intern and asked managers for ideas of things he could work on and help with, and we got a lot of good ideas.”

“Everybody loved and embraced our intern. She brought fresh ideas and suggestions that we had never thought of. Many on my team mentioned that they felt a renewed sense of pride for their jobs after seeing that a college student/graduate would be interested in working in a laundry plant atmosphere by choice.”

TRSA has an on-demand learning library that will allow you to “live stream” all of the association’s webinars, including this latest edition. TRSA members can purchase webinars, and other training and educational resources at a reduced member price. TRSA has an exciting lineup of educational webinars in the works for the remainder of 2018. The next webinar is titled “Customer Contracts: The Good, The Bad and The Ugly,” and will be held on Feb. 7 from 2-3 p.m. EST.
