Ecolab Inc. recently received a series of awards for corporate leadership, sales, sustainability and equality, according to a company e-newsletter shared with Textile Services Weekly.

Doug Baker

For starters, CEO Doug Baker recently was recognized for the third consecutive year by the Harvard Business Review’s list of the Top 100 CEOs worldwide. Baker came in at 39th place this year, vs. 41st last year and 98th in 2015. The list reflects the effectiveness of CEOs of S&P Global 1200 companies across the length of their tenures. Criteria include financial performance going back as far as 1995. Other metrics include country-adjusted total shareholder return, industry adjusted total shareholder return and changes in market capitalization. These measures accounted for 80% of the rankings. The remaining 20% reflect environmental, social and governance (ESG) issues. ESG data was obtained from CSRHub and SustainAnalytics ratings, which aggregates such information. Three other awards that Ecolab has earned reflect well on its commitment to ESG issues. Specifically, Ecolab was named for the third straight year to the Dow Jones Sustainability North America Index, a comprehensive assessment of leading sustainability-driven companies. Ecolab also was named to the “Water A List” by the CDP, a nonprofit, global environmental-disclosure platform.

A fourth recognition is in the area of corporate equality. Ecolab earned a perfect score on the 2018 Corporate Equality Index, a national benchmarking survey and report on corporate policies and practices related to workplace equality for people who are lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender or “questioning” about their gender identity (LGBTQ).

Last but not least, Ecolab recently was recognized in a fifth area: excellence in sales. Earlier this year, the company was named to Selling Power magazine’s “50 Best Companies to Sell For” list. “Our sales force is the lifeblood of our organization,” said Baker, whose company was ranked 31st on the list. “We work hard to provide our sales-and-service team of more than 25,000 associates with the resources they need to focus on what they do best: solving customer problems.”

This year’s 50 Best Companies to Sell For application included detailed sections covering three broad categories:

  • Compensation and Benefits
  • Hiring, Sales Training and Sales Enablement
  • Customer Retention

For each category, Selling Power applies proprietary scoring systems, according to an article on the program in September’s issue of the magazine. For example, on the issue of sales contests, companies are asked not only if they held such competitions, but how frequently they occurred. Click here for details.
