Laundry Exec Cites ‘Rocky’ Foe in Article

Jay Juffre, Southeast Region vice president of ImageFIRST, recently wrote an article for South Florida Hospital News that borrowed a page from one of the “Rocky” movies to make a point about addressing the challenges facing healthcare providers.

In the article, Juffre posed the rhetorical question, “Who’s your Drago?,” referring to rival boxer Ivan Drago in Rocky IV, a film that marked its 30th anniversary last December. Juffre explained how the movie hero Rocky Balboa, played by Sylvester Stallone, methodically and proactively prepared to meet and ultimately defeat his foe, Russian boxer Ivan Drago. Juffre suggested a similar approach to problem solving can help healthcare managers improve the performance of their organizations. “What’s your organization’s Drago,” he wrote. “What is the big thing that is standing in the way of your victory?”

Like Rocky, Juffre suggested that healthcare providers look at their challenges clearly and act forcefully to resolve them. “All too often as leaders, we know exactly what it is going to take to win when it comes to patient care,” he said. “But for some reason, we are reluctant to act.”

Whether the problem is training frontline employees, making a new key hire, or some other issue, Juffre suggested that, “Regardless of what the ‘Drago’ is, my experience is focus, planning, hard work, action and results will get you and your team where they need to be. When it comes to patient care, identify your Drago and then, like Rocky, knock it out and win big!” Click here to read the full article.
