Milliken & Co., Spartanburg, SC, recently was recognized with an R&D 100 Award from R&D Magazine for its Westex Shield CXP, according to a news release. The material developed by Westex by Milliken, features a protective fabric that defends the wearer from flame as well as chemical splash hazards – without compromising comfort.

Milliken also received an InnoVision Award for its Millguard UVX200 HF, a UV absorber used in polyurethanes, for excellence in Technology Integration. The product offers widespread application for polyurethane systems used in the automotive industry and apparel foam, serving as a first line of defense to protect polyurethane substrates from harmful UV radiation.

“Our community of innovators is not afraid to ask questions, push boundaries and challenge the status quo,” said Chris Desoiza, Milliken vice president of research. “Our passion to ‘do good’ motivates all areas of business at Milliken—from idea generation to end-user products. We are all driven by the belief that we can make a real difference in the world. It is humbling and inspiring for two renowned organization to recognize and applaud this pursuit.”

The R&D 100 Awards Program is sometimes known as the “Oscars of Innovation.” Milliken has received honors for various products for five consecutive years from this group. The InnoVision Awards have recognized South Carolina businesses for nearly 20 years. Click here for details.
