A sales and use tax exemption for materials used by commercial laundries to clean and treat fabrics is headed to the Missouri governor. Missouri Senate Bill 20 (SB-20) gives commercial laundries a sales tax exemption on the purchases of electrical energy and gas, chemicals, machinery, equipment and materials used in the processing of laundry.

The Missouri State House approved the exemption 104-43. The Senate passed the measure 31-3. The bill was initiated by TRSA members in Missouri.

This legislation was part of a larger package last year to make it to the desk of Gov. Jay Nixon (D), but he vetoed the bill due to the large price tag. This year it is a stand-alone measure and has broad support.
