Mountville’s $10K Typo is a Doggone Good Deal!

Major news outlets, including CNN, Fox News and the BBC, (see links below) recently reported that a logomat manufactured by Mountville Mills Inc. for the Pinellas County (FL) Sheriff’s Office came with a slight error. Rather than printing the state motto, “In God We Trust,” near the bottom of the county seal, the logo mat read, “In Dog We Trust.”

When a deputy discovered the error, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office decided to auction off the misprinted logo mat and donate the proceeds to the local animal rescue agency, Canine Estates Inc. By the end of the auction, it was clear that this mat was now the “Best in Show” – it earned a bid of $9,650 for charity (http://www.onlineauction.com/auction/2076173).

While readers may or may not agree that dogs are man’s best friend, in this case it’s clear that a $500 mat donated by the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office befriended the cause of a dog-related charity.

Mountville Vice President of Sales Tyler Fowler said he was surprised by the response that a mat with a small mistake had generated. “Hopefully we provided your office with a few laughs,” he said after sharing the story with Textile Services Weekly. “It was truly amazing the number of phone calls and e-mails we received.”
