Cooperative Laundry, a Kearny, NJ-based hospitality launderer, has plans to open a 90,000-square-foot facility in San Marcos, TX, roughly 35 miles south of Austin, according to news reports.

The company plans to open the new facility in spring 2022, and will employ at least 100 at the new plant, located in a business park near a new one-million-square-foot Amazon distribution facility. Chad Stockton, vice president of Cooperative Laundry, told the Austin Business Journal that the San Marcos facility will have less machinery than the company’s Kearny, NJ, site and will operate as a separate business, solely serving hotels in Texas.

“Texas is a great market,” Stockton said. “San Marcos allows us to reach a lot of markets with a reasonable commute.”

Kelsee Lee, the city of San Marcos economic and business development manager, said city leaders “are pleased” about Cooperative Laundry choosing San Marcos. “Cooperative Laundry has made a commitment to innovation and sustainable business practices through its TRSA Clean Green certification and is an example of how industry can thrive while being sensitive to our natural resources,” Lee said.
