NY, CA Operators: Reg Issue Calls Slated for Feb. 28

TRSA’s Vice President of Government Relations Kevin Schwalb has scheduled two conference calls for Wednesday, Feb. 28, in order to brief members with operations in New York City and California on regulatory issues that could have a significant impact on companies in those jurisdictions.

The California issues center on two concerns: First, efforts to reform Title 22 rules that currently require healthcare operators to launder textiles at a minimum of 24 minutes at 160° F, even though advances in chemistry and washing technologies now enable safe processing at lower temperature and in less time. Second, the California Air Resources Board is placing carbon restrictions on delivery trucks, a move that will affect laundry fleet operations in the Golden State. TRSA has hired California-based counsel to assist the industry in its outreach to state officials on both issues. The call is planned for 11 a.m. PST. The number is 877.216.1555; passcode 1054763#.

As for New York City, local officials there recently introduced a plan to ease congestion that includes an outright ban on trucks making deliveries/pickups in the city’s five boroughs in certain locations and at certain times. This could have a dramatic impact on laundries’ ability to deliver clean goods and take away soiled items. As in California, TRSA has hired local government-affairs counsel to advise on the best way to advocate for greater flexibility in the new rules. The call will take place at 11 a.m. EST at the same number as noted above, 877.216.1555; passcode 1054763.
