Oceanside to Shutter in June

Oceanside Institutional Industries Inc., Oceanside, NY, plans to close its Oceanside plant and lay off all 171 of its employees, according to media reports. The reports were based on a regulatory notice that recently was posted to the New York Labor Department’s website.

The notice lists June 18 as the plant’s closing date and said the layoffs will begin on June 15. The company cited “economic” reasons for the shutdown. Under the state’s Worker Adjustment and Retraining Notification Act, companies with at least 50 full-time employees have to file a 90-day notice ahead of a large layoff or closing, or they face fines.
