Manda Shaw, a 24-year veteran of Paris Cos. and a longtime executive assistant to President and CEO David Stern, recently was recognized with an award from the DuBois, PA, Chamber of Commerce for her many years of volunteerism and community service, both locally and beyond.

The Silver Ribbon Award is given annually to a local resident who has exemplified community service and volunteerism, as well as someone who makes the effort to help others reach their full potential. In accepting the award at a recent recognition ceremony, Shaw said her desire to help others has benefited her personally as well. “When you take that gift you have and share it with others, the truth is it just brings more joy to your life,” she said, according to local news reports. Shaw added that her recognition was, in a sense, shared by many people. “The Silver Ribbon Award has my name on it,” she said. “But I like to think of this as a celebration of this entire community. I think that whether you are native to this area or a transplant here, we have a choice of what to make of our lives. I think we are a very wealthy community – everywhere you look people are friendly and genuine with each other.”

Shaw’s community activities have included work with the DuBois Council of Arts, CRI Reitz Theatre, Hope for Victims of Violence, the DuBois City Zoning Hearing Board, the Tri County Church, Junior Achievement, Won by One to Jamaica and Penn Highlands Pastoral Care, which is a volunteer chaplain’s program.

Stern described Shaw as the ideal recipient of the Silver Ribbon Award due to her extensive volunteer work in DuBois and beyond. “I can tell you, she epitomizes this award,” he said. “She’s empathetic, she’s driven, self-directed, compassionate, community-minded, spiritual and highly energetic. I know dozens of times Manda has given her time and talents to help others in her community, and it’s not just our community. She volunteers to do missions work in Jamaica. I want you to know how proud we are as a company to have her honored in our community.” Click here and here for details.
