Retired CITY Laundering Exec Passes On

Roger B. Wetlaufer, 87, passed away on Dec. 31, 2017, in Tucson, AZ. He was the former president and CEO of CITY Laundering Co., Oelwein, IA.

Wetlaufer served in the U.S. Navy during the Korean War before joining the family business founded in 1906 by his father, Herbert W. Wetlaufer. Roger B. became president in 1972 and took over the business from his brother, Gerald. Under his leadership, CITY continued to expand its market area.

In March 1992, Roger B. passed on the role of president to his son, Roger J. Wetlaufer. The company’s most recent leadership transition happened in April, when Roger J. relinquished the role of president to his son, Colin Wetlaufer.

Born Aug. 4, 1930, in Oelwein, Roger B. graduated from Oelwein High School, and studied at Luther College. Survivors include his wife of 63 years, Esther Hokenson Wetlaufer. The couple moved to Tucson after retiring. Roger B. was an avid hunter and outdoorsman, having fished and hunted on four different continents.
