Kevin Schwalb, TRSA’s vice president of government relations, was invited to speak at the ACT Expo – the nation’s largest fleet and zero-emission vehicles show. Schwalb was part of a panel presentation on California and other states’ efforts to require zero-emission delivery vehicles. Schwalb shared the panel with Bruce Tuter, supervisor of Region One for the California Air Resources Board (CARB).

During the panel discussion, Tuter outlined CARB’s recently passed Advanced Clean Fleet (ACF) rule. Schwalb stood up for the linen, uniform and facility services industry, discussing the industry’s history of being an environmentally sustainable industry and the desire to meet the challenges of utilizing a zero-emission fleet.

Schwalb highlighted the shortcomings of the ACF rule by focusing on the user – not the infrastructure. “The industry was ‘green’ before ‘green’ was cool,” Schwalb said. “The industry shares CARB’s desire to move to zero-emission vehicles; however, the capability and infrastructure currently do not exist to support the industry’s needs in providing the essential services needed for public safety.”

The ACT Expo was held in Anaheim, Calif., from May 2-4. For more information on the ACT Expo, visit www.actexpo.com.
