In response to first responders urgent need for personal protective equipment (PPE) to combat the COVID-19 coronavirus pandemic, Jiangsu Sea-lion Machinery Co. Ltd. of China supplied North American affiliate Sea-lion America Co. with a shipment of PPE masks. The masks have been donated to Connecticut firemen, police, visiting nurses, and to a disabled persons group home, according to a news release.

Local first responders were directed to give all their PPE to hospitals and healthcare facilities to help fight the pandemic. Orders for replacement supplies were backlogged for at least 30 days.

Due to social distancing, presentation of the masks was with organization leaders only. Organization leaders coordinated distribution to those first responders who were in most need. The Berlin (CT) Fire Department assisted the following organizations: Berlin FD, Kensington FD, East Berlin FD, South Kensington FD, Cromwell FD, Berlin Police, and the Visiting Nurses Association of Central Connecticut serving Berlin, New Britain, Rocky Hill, Cromwell, Newington, Southington, Middletown, Plainville, Wethersfield and Meriden. CCARC distributed masks amongst its 11 group homes.

“The situation in China has eased, and life and business are getting back to normal,” said Aaron Zhang, deputy manager of Jiangsu Sea-lion, who organized the shipment from China. “Schools and universities are returning to session and businesses throughout the country are back at work. We are a team and we are also very moved by the donations. Please also take care of yourself and family!”
