Sustainability: Q&A with Novozymes Exec

Posted July 29, 2016 at 12:27 pm

Claus Stig Pedersen, head of corporate sustainability for Novozymes, a global biotechnology company, recently weighed in on global environmental trends facing launderers and other businesses during an interview with KoAnn Skrzyniarz, CEO of Sustainable Brands. This San Francisco-based organization is dedicated to helping businesses defend the environment.

The interview with Pedersen, whose company is engaged in the research, development and production of industrial enzymes for laundry detergents and related products for various industries, touched on several issues. Among these was the need to encourage companies to take the lead on environmental conservation. “Sustainability is strategic to all companies and something they should all take really seriously,” said Pederson, whose company is also a TRSA associate member. “Unfortunately, only a minority has yet realized that.”

Pederson has taken on the role of helping to educate companies on sustainability, including retail giant Wal-Mart. “It took a year; Walmart liked the lifecycle idea, but they were not really sure what to do about it because we were not trying to sell them anything – we were trying to sell a vision, a mission,” he said.
