Top Safety Tips for Textile Service Customers

With the new year right around the corner, now is a great time to remind customers not to take safety for granted and thereby help them to avoid incidents in 2015 and beyond.

Workrite Uniform, an affiliate of Williamson-Dickie Manufacturing Co., has assembled a list of tips that could help you help your customers to protect their employees. They include: Putting safety first. That means performing a hazard assessment and following all procedures, including wearing the proper flame-resistant (FR) clothing and other personal protective equipment (PPE). Safety briefings also will help ensure that protocols are in place for hazardous work.

Next, following a few simple rules will ensure that your customers’ employees get the full protection of their FR apparel. First, zip up, roll down and tuck in all FR clothing. Never wear synthetic layers under FR garments; even clothing worn underneath can heat up, and synthetic fabric can melt and cause severe burn injuries.

Remind customers, too, that safety gear that fits properly will provide more effective protection. Wearing hard hats and safety glasses can be easy to forget – but eyes are irreplaceable. And don’t forget to protect your ears as well. Loud noises can cause major damage and hearing loss over time.

Finally, wear fall restraints when elevated. Falls are one of the most common injuries, and fall restraints reduce that risk of injury. Click here to learn more.
