TRSA kicked off its 2018 webinar series with a topic that has been increasingly in the spotlight during the past year, with several high-profile figures falling due to past indiscretions coming to light. The webinar, titled “Sexual Harassment: An Old Problem Under a New Spotlight,” shared five steps that your company can take to avoid harassment and discrimination claims in the workplace.

The hour-long presentation was hosted by Joseph P. Shelton, partner, Fisher & Phillips LLP, Atlanta. Shelton previously spoke with TRSA members at the association’s first-ever Workforce Management Summit in April 2017 in Chicago. He also hosted TRSA’s September 2017 webinar titled “Anatomy of an HR Lawsuit.”

During the webinar, Shelton shared his five-step plan for avoiding claims:

  1. Make sure your policies match modern standards.
  2. Disseminate your policies in a thoughtful manner.
  3. Train your managers.
  4. Promptly investigate any issues raised.
  5. Enforce policies consistently.
