Uniform Survey Points to Growth Opportunities

TRSA recently completed two national surveys on uniform preferences, and found that 82% of businesses and 86% of consumers prefer that employees wear uniforms for reasons relating to image, trust and identification. The surveys, which targeted textile services decision makers, as well as consumers across the service, healthcare, hospitality and restaurant sectors, identify significant growth opportunities for textile service providers.

For example, almost 50% of all healthcare workers clean their uniforms at home. One in three hotels has been unable to find a textile services provider, but is looking to outsource linen. High-end and frequent diners (57%) reported they would pay more for meals that use table linens.

“These two surveys provide a unique and detailed perspective on business issues related to uniforms and linens across multiple industries, as well as how these textiles influence consumer perceptions and choice,” said TRSA President & CEO Joseph Ricci. “We believe the resulting data will help better educate our members, and ultimately influence marketing and service improvements as they interact with their consumers.”

The two surveys were completed between Feb. 24 and March 9 by Fabrizio Ward, an opinion research and consulting firm based in Fort Lauderdale, FL. Additional data on business decision maker and consumer views, along with the complete surveys, is available for download by the media at www.trsa.org/research.
