Unitex Backs ‘National Recovery Month’ 5K in CT
Unitex Textile Rental Services is doing its part for “National Recovery Month,” a September commemoration of efforts by people to overcome substance abuse and mental illness. The healthcare textile services provider is stepping up by co-sponsoring the second annual “Road 2 Recovery 5K Fun-Run/Wellness Walk” in Milford, CT.
This event, slated for 9 a.m.-2 p.m., Sept. 12, at the Walnut Beach Pavilion in Milford is organized by the R.E.A.C.H. OUT Project (Recovery, Education, Accountability, Community and Hope), a new organization that provides certified peer-mentor services to youth and families in Milford, according to a news release.
“We are happy to help support the R.E.A.C.H. OUT Project and take part in the 5K Recovery Run/Wellness Walk in Milford,” said David Potack, vice president of Unitex, based in Mt. Vernon, NY. “These issues affect the lives of many, and it is important to help bring awareness, starting at the local level. At Unitex, we make it our goal to help people in our communities and strive to help bring positive impact to others every day.”
The R.E.A.C.H. OUT organization gives people who are affected by addiction and mental illness a way to seek help when they don’t know where to find it or are afraid to ask. Unitex and other area companies are helping the group raise funds and awareness for this initiative. The organization’s goals include helping to remove the stigma associated with addiction and mental illness, fostering positive attitudes toward recovery and honoring those lost to these afflictions.
While promoting community awareness of these issues is the primary goal of the event, the Road 2 Recovery 5K Fun-Run/Wellness Walk also is designed as an opportunity for fun and recreation as well, the release said. This year’s event will feature enjoyable activities for the whole family. Click here to learn more.
