After sponsoring a summer concert series with various nursing homes and senior assisted living facilities across New York City, the team at Unitex, Elmsford, NY, partnered with St. Mary’s Hospital for Children in Bayside, NY, to bring music, dancing and entertainment to patients. Unitex designed this concert series with healing and hope in mind, looking to bring the power of music to everyone, according to a news release.

The event in Bayside was proof that music is powerful, as many of the patients got up on their feet to clap, sing and dance the morning away, the release said. “The Unitex concert was a wonderful way to celebrate the spirit of St. Mary’s Hospital for Children,” said Victoria Falcone, manager of strategic partnerships at St. Mary’s Hospital for Children. “Not only was the event great music therapy for the kids, they had an amazing time! We are so grateful for our partnership.”

The concert series was led by the duo of Athenia Henderson and Devon Atherley who performed an up-tempo set of dance and pop standards with a Caribbean vibe. Known for her powerful voice and cool Caribbean appeal, Henderson entertained a group of more than 75 children and young adult patients in the medical day healthcare program.

“There is no question that music is a great healing tool,” said Seth Gershman, marketing & communications director at Unitex. “We helped create seven shows to date and we are looking at bringing this concert series to many more seniors and patients across the tri-state area.”
