Newburgh, NY, Mayor Judy Kennedy recently helped kick off National Disability Employment Awareness Month at Unitex Textile Rental Services’ Newburgh, NY, plant, according to a news release. In addition to Mayor Kennedy, several community and business leaders attended the event.

Unitex hosted OSCEAN’s (Orange and Sullivan Counties Employment Alliance Network) Oct. 6 event and helped honor select employers who have hired qualified employees with disabilities to be part of their workforces. OSCEAN has recognized Unitex for their contributions and awareness of this cause and since Unitex regularly hires workers from these types of programs, they were selected as the location site to host this year’s event in Newburgh.

"Expect. Employ. Empower." was the 2014 official theme of National Disability Employment Awareness Month.  Observed annually, National Disability Employment Awareness Month is a nationwide campaign that raises awareness about disability employment issues and honors the many diverse contributions of America's workers with disabilities.
