Unitex Opens New Plant in Linden, NJ
Unitex Textile Rental Services, Mt. Vernon, NY, recently opened its 12th facility in the Northeast, a new 67,000-square-foot laundry near Newark International Airport, according to a news release.
"We are ecstatic to be here in Linden and have bright plans for the future,” said David Potack, sr. vice president of Unitex. He noted that the company looks forward to serving customers and employees, as well as the community. “It is our goal to employ as many local residents as possible and to give them the opportunity to work for a company that they respect and trust. Since we are a family-owned business, we are involved in every step of the process and want to ensure that our company works well on all levels. And aside from our team here in Linden, we want to reinforce the importance of community and our desire to work closely with the city to help support local events and programs. Giving back is in our company’s DNA, and we anticipate becoming a big part of the community of Linden, similar to the support we show in the other cities where our facilities are located.”
The release emphasized that the new facility, which formally opens in June, will employ advanced technology. This will help ensure environmentally friendly processing of healthcare textiles at the Linden plant, which is capable of washing and finishing up to 1.1 million lbs. of linen per week. For example, the plant’s overhead rail equipment will move slings, each loaded with 200 lbs. of textiles, as part of a system capable of washing up to 7,000 lbs. per hour, the release said.
Unitex uses “green practices” to ensure that the Linden plant and its other facilities operate as efficiently and cost-effectively as possible, thus limiting the company’s carbon footprint. These efforts include using energy as efficiently as possible, operating state-of-the-art washing and finishing equipment, and using a variety of procedures focused on reusing and recycling materials regularly.
The Linden plant is Unitex’ third facility in New Jersey. It operates two others in New Brunswick and Perth Amboy, NJ. Additional plants include locations in Newburgh, Mt. Vernon and Middletown, NY; plus Hartford, South Windsor and Middlebury, CT.
