Position Summary
We are seeking an experienced Director of Engineering & Maintenance to lead and elevate maintenance operations across multiple industrial facilities. Each facility has its own Maintenance Manager and team; this role provides overall leadership, structure, and technical direction.
This position is responsible for moving the maintenance function to the next level by improving preventative maintenance, reducing unplanned downtime, strengthening documentation, and driving capital and improvement projects. The ideal candidate is a hands-on technical leader who can troubleshoot complex issues when needed while primarily focusing on building systems, developing people, and executing projects.
Key Responsibilities
- Leadership & Team Development
- Directly lead and mentor Maintenance Managers at each facility.
- Occasional travel.
- Establish clear expectations, accountability, and performance standards.
- Develop training plans and technical growth paths for maintenance teams.
- Build a culture of proactive, professional maintenance.
- Maintenance Systems & Reliability
- Own and improve the preventative maintenance (PM) program across all facilities.
- Standardize PMs, work orders, and documentation.
- Ensure PM completion and quality.
- Improve equipment uptime and reduce emergency breakdowns.
- Develop and manage spare parts and critical inventory strategies.
- Technical & Hands-On Support
- Serve as the highest-level technical resource for complex mechanical, electrical, and controls issues.
- Provide troubleshooting support for escalated equipment failures.
- Support commissioning and optimization of new equipment.
- Projects & Capital Planning
- Design, plan, and execute major maintenance and engineering projects.
- Lead equipment installations, upgrades, and plant improvements.
- Coordinate contractors and internal teams.
- Support capital planning, budgeting, and ROI analysis.
- Safety & Compliance
- Ensure safe maintenance practices across all facilities.
- Enforce lockout/tagout, machine guarding, and regulatory compliance.
- Reduce safety risks associated with equipment failures.

Requirements
Qualifications
- 8–15+ years of industrial maintenance experience
- 3+ years leading maintenance teams or managers
- Associates or Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or related field.
- Strong mechanical and electrical troubleshooting skills
- Experience building or improving preventative maintenance programs
- Experience leading capital projects or major equipment installs
- Comfortable working on the plant floor and in an office environment
- Strong communication and organizational skills
Preferred
- Experience in manufacturing, food processing, or similar industrial environments
- PLC and controls experience
- CMMS implementation or optimization experience
